Your E-Bike for the Camino: What You Need to Know

Cycling the Camino on an electric bike (e-bike) is a great way to enjoy the route with a little extra support. An e-bike gives you motor-assisted pedalling, making hills easier and long days more manageable—without removing the joy (or the effort) of cycling.

Here are the key things you need to know:

  • Included in Your Camino Package: E-bikes are only available as part of a Camino tour package and cannot be rented separately.
  • Pedal Assist, Not a Scooter: The motor helps as you pedal—it doesn’t do all the work. You still need to cycle, just with far less strain.
  • Height Requirements: Suitable for people between 1.47m and 2m. Bikes come in different sizes. Please measure your height accurately and, if you're near the limits, test a similar size locally before booking.
  • Minimum Rental: 5 Days: E-bikes are only available for routes that finish in Santiago de Compostela. They must be returned to the designated bike shop in Santiago.Range and Charging: The battery lasts up to 130 km in Eco mode, less in higher settings. Charge the bike fully every night. If it runs out mid-day, you can still pedal like a normal bike—but be warned, at 25kg, it’s heavy.Assembly and Adjustments: Your e-bike arrives almost ready to go. You’ll just need to attach pedals and adjust the saddle and handlebars. Tools and instructions are provided.
  • Helmet and Panniers Included: You’ll get a helmet, two waterproof pannier bags (20L each), and a repair kit. Bring your own helmet if you prefer—just let us know in advance.
  • Some Cycling Experience Recommended: If this is your first time on an e-bike, consider trying one before your trip. They are easy to use, but basic bike handling is still needed.
  • 24/7 Support: You’ll have access to a 24/7 assistance number for help during your trip. Emergency support includes arranging transport to a local repair shop if needed.
  • Compostela Certificate Eligible: You can still earn your Compostela by e-bike if you cycle 200 km or more.

E-bikes offer freedom, comfort, and just enough of a boost to make your Camino both relaxed and rewarding. Just be sure to plan your days, charge your battery, and share the path respectfully with others. More info.
